Dr. Sowmyashree Mayur Kaku, MBBS, PhD

Dr. Sowmyashree Kaku is a child and adolescent mental health expert and clinician-scientist, trained at KIMS and NIMHANS, India. She specializes in neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as a wide range of emotional and behavioral conditions in children and adolescents.

 

Her clinical approach is holistic and family-centered, with a strong focus on pediatric liaison psychiatry—providing integrated mental health support for children with complex medical conditions. She has held positions at leading hospitals including Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Aster CMI, and St. John’s Medical College, contributing to patient care, clinical training, and child mental health research.

 

A passionate mental health advocate, Dr. Kaku has conducted over 500 workshops for parents, educators, and professionals, promoting awareness around child development, behavior, and well-being. Her research, supported by organizations such as the Indian Council of Medical Research, Manipal Foundation, and the International Brain Research Organization, focuses on early autism detection, neurobiology of autism, and community-based research.

 

Also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and Carnatic musician, she brings empathy, cultural sensitivity, and scientific rigor to her work—committed to improving the mental health and quality of life of children and families.
